The Grapevine
came about in a natural and unexpected way back in 1993. Mike Bailey purchased a new computer for his daughter in college. In the box was a disk for joining AOL in its very early days. He signed on as a member of AOL and immediately began searching the country for watercolorist pen pals. He found 185 possibilities at the time, one of which was Colleen Newport Stevens. Mike and Colleen began corresponding about their work, shows, different pigments, workshop methods, demonstrations, different artists and anything else they could dream up about watercolor. They struck up a daily exchange that eventually included Mark Mehaffey, who, apparently had done something similar to Mike and had also contacted Colleen. It wasn' t long after that Pat, Sue and Peg joined the fray. As time passed we had some talented and interesting "members" come and go. The current "Grape Family" has been together for several years and is very devoted. Virginia, Judy, Bob and Robbie all cement the group together with their wonderful art and knowledge. All through this passed nine years, this online friendship and support group of watercolor artists has been actively communicating almost daily. Imagine any possible question about art or folding art into your personal life.... you can be sure that it has been thoroughly discussed many times on the Grapevine! The membership boasts signature members and honors recipients from MWS, NWS, AWS and virtually every watercolor honor group there is. With a membership like that, the volumes of email. . .and the knowledge that has been passed would fill many books! |
